Background

Moshe Paranov, born Morris Perlmutter, was one of the founders of the Hartt School of Music and the University of Hartford. A native of Hartford, Paranov's musical career began when he was a very young man, performing at local synagogues.
With Julius Hartt, he founded the original Hartt  School in 1920. Paranov married Hartt's daughter Pauline "Dot" or "Dottie". Both Moshe and Pauline Paranov were associated with the school for the rest of their lives. Paranov was the first director of the Hartt School after its affiliation with the University. Pauline was the principal seamstress for many of the elaborate costumes used in Hartt productions. Later she served as Dean.
Moshe Paranov was well known throughout Greater Hartord and contributed enormously to the musical life of the community. The Paranovs had two daughters: Nina Paranov Fagan and Tanya Paranov. After Pauline's death, Moshe married Elizabeth "Libby" Warner, a member of the Hartt faculty. Elizabeth Warner Paranov organized her late husband's papers and donated them to the University.
Scope and Content   The collection spans Paranov's lifetime, documenting his career as well as the contributions of his first wife, Pauline Hartt Paranov, and the history of the Hartt School in every phase of its development.
